Aalto Model 42 Armchair

The Model 42 armchair was designed in 1932 by the Finnish functionalist architect Alvar Aalto. Its organic, flowing form makes it surprisingly comfortable to sit in, despite the absence of cushioning. The chair is made of bent birch plywood, and it is very representative Alvar Aalto’s work.

The chair is manufactured by Artek, and you can buy one from the Finnish Design Shop for 2 100€. Decent second hand chairs can be found for around 600€ or more.
